Stripe US Fees: From Gross Payment to Net Receipt

The amount a customer pays and the amount remaining after processing are different numbers. When planning a payment, calculate both; a percentage alone misses the fixed charge on each transaction.

The Stripe fee calculator covers US standard online card pricing in USD. It is not a universal Stripe calculator for every country or product.

Use the right pricing scope

As checked on 14 October 2026, the linked US schedule lists 2.9% plus $0.30 for domestic online cards, with applicable additions for international cards, required currency conversion and manual entry. The tool exposes those options. Use your own contract if you have negotiated pricing.

A small payment example

Under the domestic model, a $20 payment has an estimated fee of $0.88 and leaves $19.12. Ten separate $20 payments incur ten fixed charges. A single $200 payment has the same percentage component but only one fixed charge, so the modelled total is different. This illustrates fee mechanics; it does not recommend changing how customers are billed.

Work backwards carefully

To solve for a gross amount that leaves a target net, add the fixed charge to the target and divide by one minus the percentage. For a target net of $20, the unrounded gross amount is $20.30 ÷ 0.971, or about $20.9063. Rounding upward gives $20.91.

Adding 2.9% to the target is not the same calculation, because the processing percentage applies to the final gross charge. The reverse calculation is arithmetic, not permission to surcharge a payment method. Applicable rules and your agreement remain separate questions.

Where this estimate stops

The tool does not calculate the total cost of operating a Stripe account. Other payment methods, recurring-billing products, tax services, disputes, refunds, Connect and payout choices can have separate charges. The underlying fee schedule is dated and should be rechecked before quoting a customer.

For a custom percentage and fixed charge, use the general payment fee calculator. To evaluate product profitability, combine processing costs with your other direct costs in the margin calculator.
