A move of 50 pips is not a complete profit figure. Its cash value also depends on position size, pip size and the currency of the account. The Forex profit calculator keeps these quantities visible so that a currency conversion is not silently assumed.
Start with the actual position
Imagine a long EUR/USD position of 0.2 lots, with 100,000 EUR per lot. The position contains 20,000 EUR. If the entry fill is 1.1000 and the exit fill is 1.1030, the positive price difference is 0.0030 USD per EUR. Multiplying by 20,000 gives 60 USD gross profit.
With a pip size of 0.0001, that move is 30 pips and each pip is worth 2 USD for this position. If your instrument uses a different contract size or pip convention, enter those specifications instead of assuming this example applies.
Convert in the correct direction
Suppose the account currency is EUR and the conversion input is 0.90 EUR per USD. The 60 USD gross result becomes 54 EUR. Subtracting 4 EUR of additional costs leaves 50 EUR. Entering the reciprocal rate would produce an incorrect account result.
For a short position, a falling price creates a positive signed move; a rising price creates a negative one. The calculator handles this through its direction selector. Actual broker conversion can include a spread or use different rates for gains and losses; enter the appropriate effective rate for your scenario.
Avoid subtracting the spread twice
If you enter actual entry and exit fills, their bid/ask differences are already reflected in the prices. Additional costs should include only charges not already captured, such as a separate commission or a funding debit. Do not take a net statement result and deduct the same fees again.
Profit is not margin or risk
This model does not establish how much margin the broker requires or where liquidation would happen. Nor does a planned stop guarantee a maximum loss. Use the position size calculator for a chosen risk budget and the pip value calculator to check units separately. These are planning calculations, not trade recommendations.
