Retirement Savings & Contribution Calculator
Project fixed monthly saving to retirement and solve the contribution implied by a spending-based target. See future currency and today’s purchasing power separately.
Your inputs
Use consistent units and periods. Defaults are examples.
Your result
Check the assumptions below before relying on a result.
Formula and method
Monthly net growth=annual net growth^(1/12). Balance grows first, then the fixed contribution is added. Retirement target=today’s spending-gap target×(1+inflation)^years. Required contribution solves the same monthly annuity equation.
Worked example
With 10 years remaining,100,000 starting capital, zero return/fees/inflation and a 1,000 monthly contribution, ending capital is 220,000. A 480,000 target requires 3,166.67 per month under those same assumptions. The complete annual table reconciles contributed capital.

- Use one currency throughout. An annual spending input is not a monthly amount.
- Read the timing, inflation and fee definitions before comparing scenarios.
- Inspect the annual table and download CSV to retain the assumptions.
- Use the second scenario on supported tools to vary one assumption at a time. No result proves that stopping work is prudent.
Questions about this calculation
Why are nominal and purchasing-power balances different?
The nominal amount is the future account balance. Dividing by the cumulative entered inflation factor expresses that same balance in today’s purchasing-power units.
Are monthly contributions inflation adjusted?
No. This model holds their nominal amount fixed. Raising contributions over time is a different scenario and is not silently assumed.
Does this replace my pension or Social Security calculation?
No. Other income is a user-entered assumption in today’s purchasing power. Eligibility, timing, benefit formulas and account access restrictions are outside this tool.
