GnuCash: selected plans, costs and portability
Free open-source desktop accounting with double-entry records, small-business invoicing and multiple currency accounts. It also supports personal-accounting use cases.
What changes the decision
Desktop setup and accounting knowledge matter. HTML report export is different from transaction CSV export. Online banking support does not imply every bank or automatic feed works.
Desktop
Free licence
Free open-source licence; reports export HTML/print, not all reports direct CSV. Self-managed backups.

Test your own workflow before switching
Set up account mappings before a small CSV import. Test invoices, currencies and exported reports with synthetic records; keep a restorable data-file backup.
Preserve opening balances, open receivables and payables, tax balances, attachments and a dated trial balance. A CSV bank statement contains bank activity; it does not recreate invoices, inventory, account history or reconciliations. Confirm that the chosen account, role and edition support the needed import/export format.
Evidence and update policy
Prices refer to selected monthly list plans. Check the current checkout for taxes, add-ons, country eligibility and changed terms. Unknown features stay unverified; a filter match is not a recommendation that the software meets your tax or reporting obligations. Our sources are listed below so you can verify the exact edition.
- GnuCash licence and download — Free open-source software for Windows/macOS/Linux. Version number is deliberately not compared.
- GnuCash features — Double-entry desktop accounting, small-business invoices and multiple currency accounts. Online banking capabilities depend on available integration; automatic feed filter remains unverified.
- GnuCash report export manual — Reports export to HTML/print, not evidence every report has direct CSV export.
- GnuCash CSV import/export — CSV transaction import requires account/column/date/encoding mapping; no native acceptance test performed here.
