Stock Screening vs Backtesting: Avoid Lookahead Evidence
Understand why a current filter match does not establish a historically tradable strategy.
A present snapshot answers a present-data question
The local CSV tool applies explicit conditions to the rows supplied. It has no price path, corporate-action model, delisting universe, execution model or portfolio-rebalancing engine. Its pass rate is a dataset count, not a win rate.
Historical financial periods are not enough
A financial value labelled 2020 may have been revised or first published later. A valid historical decision needs the version available at that date, with publication timing and an appropriate survivorship-aware universe. Looking at historical columns today does not automatically provide that dataset.
Separate provider capabilities
Stock Rover distinguishes viewing financial history from qualifying historical-screening features. Other products have their own plan and data policies. Inspect the exact mechanism rather than assuming every screener can test old signals. Stock Rover screener overview
Use the existing testing workflow
Our backtesting catalogue covers a separate task, while paper-trading and replay tools address simulation practice. The local screener deliberately makes no simulated-performance claim and does not submit orders.
