Dividend Stock Screener: Missing Values, Yield Traps & Dates
Treat a dividend threshold as a research filter and verify the cash distribution behind the number.
A zero is not a missing cell
A known zero distribution can pass a minimum yield of zero. A blank yield does not pass an active numeric threshold, including zero. With that filter inactive, a blank is retained. This distinction prevents silently converting unknown data into a measured value.
Check what produced a high yield
A falling price or a one-off distribution can make a historical yield look high. The screen does not establish that payments continue, that the business can afford them or that a fund’s distribution equals its economic return.
Keep the measurement period
Compare the same trailing or indicated yield basis across records. Review cashflow, earnings, debt and the relevant distribution announcements separately. Our snapshot date is an entered record date, not proof that every metric was freshly published on that date.
Use a bounded example
The invented sample contains a profitable Stock row with yield 3% and an older row with yield 5%. Apply minimum yield 3%, positive P/E and a 30-day maximum snapshot age at 17 October 2026. Only the recent qualifying row remains; this is a demonstration of filters, not a recommended investment.
