Debt Snowball vs Avalanche Calculator
Compare payoff time and interest for multiple debts using the same monthly budget.
Your inputs
Use consistent units and periods. Defaults are examples.
Your result
Check the assumptions below before relying on a result.
Formula and method
Monthly budget = sum of entered fixed minimums + extra. Interest accrues monthly, then every active debt receives its minimum. Remaining budget targets either the smallest starting balance (snowball) or highest rate (avalanche). Freed payments roll into the same fixed budget.
Worked example
For two zero-interest debts of 100 and 200, each with a 50 minimum and 50 extra, both methods use a 150 budget and finish in two months with no interest. Different rates can change the cost and timing.
