Savings Goal & Sinking Fund Calculator
Find the monthly deposit needed to reach a future amount, with or without interest.
Your inputs
Use consistent units and periods. Defaults are examples.
Your result
Check the assumptions below before relying on a result.
Formula and method
With monthly rate r, n months and starting savings S: monthly deposit = max(0, (target − S(1+r)^n) ÷ (((1+r)^n − 1) ÷ r)). At zero rate: max(0, (target − S) ÷ n).
Worked example
A 10,000 target, 1,000 saved and 24 months at zero interest requires 375 deposited at each month end. This is also a sinking fund for a planned expense.
