Ecommerce opportunity research: evidence, competition and next tests

Updated October 14, 2026. This report contains six opportunities: four translated from the October 13 batch and two newly researched opportunities. The evidence register has 42 unique URLs: 26 user discussions, six vendor pages, three substitutes, five platform documents and two builder promotions. Of these, 37 were opened and five rely on search-extracted text. These are source counts, not unique buyers or a market-size estimate. Existing EC evidence retains its original retrieval date; it was translated, not all rechecked today.

The new opportunities are feed-to-storefront price auditing and download entitlement diagnosis. Both have practical user problems, but neither has validated willingness to pay. One-time services are the initial experiments; a monthly subscription should follow demonstrated recurring work.

New evidence and counterevidence

Feed-to-storefront price auditing

One merchant reports stale prices affecting roughly 200 products after a plugin upgrade and rolls back to an older version. Another reports variant URLs exposing a parent price range; importantly, the author later corrects their initial attribution from Yoast to WooCommerce. These are useful reproducible scenarios, not proof of current bugs in every store. Upgrade complaint, variant-schema discussion.

A recent dynamic-discount question exposes integration friction: the storefront discount does not reach the feed, and support promises future CTX compatibility. That promise is not evidence of a shipped fix. A separate user abandoned a feed plugin after a support failure. Discount compatibility, feed/landing-page mismatch.

Google already supplies issue exports, structured-data troubleshooting and automatic item updates. Those updates depend on crawling and do not remove the need for regular accurate feeds. Native diagnostic workflow, price requirements.

AdTribes is also a direct competitor, not merely a feed exporter: its Plus and Business offerings include a scheduled validator. Observed annual prices are introductory $179.50/$249.50, renewing at $359/$499 respectively; Growth is $99.50 first year/$199 renewal but lacks the validator add-on. A free Product Feed Pro option exists. The remaining hypothesis is better diagnosis across feed, page and variant schema for a specific plugin stack. Coverage must be compared directly before building. AdTribes pricing.

Download entitlement diagnosis

Reports cover updated files missing from old purchases, failed downloads following migration, and repeated manual access grants for active subscriptions. These are different failure classes and should not be collapsed into a single universal bug. File update, migration, active subscriptions.

Current Woo documentation provides critical counterevidence: editing an existing file row updates past links, while adding a new file does not grant it to past buyers. Native controls already grant/revoke access. Regenerating permissions replaces them and loses old logs/counts, so a repair tool should not make that its default. Official guide. A request to preserve existing access while adding new files illustrates the need for careful scoping. Permission-preservation question.

A free WooCommerce GitHub utility grants new-file access to past orders, explicitly warning that its queries do not scale. Easy Digital Downloads is a platform substitute with free Lite and paid plans, rather than a drop-in repair tool. Personal currently shows $99.50 for the introductory year and $199 normal renewal. Free utility, EDD pricing. An attempted check of the old Woo Subscription Downloads product redirected to a retired-product page; it is not presented here as an available paid competitor.

Opportunity cards

All test prices below are assumptions. The billing period applies to the main initial experiment, so a one-time setup fee must not be multiplied into monthly recurring revenue.

NC-O1: Feed-to-storefront price mismatch audit

Decision: research next. Confidence: medium problem low business.

Compare feed prices, selected-variant page prices and structured data, then explain likely tax, cache, currency or discount causes. Start with a diagnostic service and exportable evidence, not another feed generator.

Evidence: NC01: Price mismatch with the latest versions; NC02: AggregateOffer on variation URLs causes price mismatch; NC03: Sale price not reflected in CTX Feed; NC04: Feed price does not match landing page; NC05: Fix automatic item updates for price; NC06: Google Merchant Center price attribute; NC07: AdTribes Product Feed Elite pricing.

Complete source register

Each observation is a paraphrase. Forum closure or a “resolved” badge is not proof of a successful merchant outcome. Builder replies are not independent demand. Purchase verification is false for every record.

EC01: Looking for a B2B Shopify Theme – No Prices, Only Request a Quote

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

A textile B2B brand needs a 50–60 item catalogue and quote forms without checkout. It prefers theme customization and treats apps as a last resort.

Limitations: 2025 discussion. Reluctance to install apps is counterevidence for a subscription. No purchase verified.

EC02: Request a quote feature help

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

A Caribbean retailer wants a cart, contact capture and an emailed quotation instead of payment.

Limitations: Replies promote QuoteMe; these are not independent buyer evidence.

EC03: B2B Wholesale app with these features?

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Requests approved registration, documents and quoting/chat with a stated budget below $50/month; reports B2BKing complexity.

Limitations: Stated budget is not a payment. SparkLayer prices in the old post have not been reverified.

EC04: B2B - request price

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · search extracted text.

Customers need negotiated prices for larger quantities. A reply describes a rarely used manual-payment quotation workaround.

Limitations: Page opening failed; search-extracted text was used.

EC05: B2B Shopify Theme with quote price option

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

A merchant wants product-page quotation requests because prices change and stock is not always available.

Limitations: Old 2023 discussion. Historical statements about Shopify B2B are not current platform limitations.

EC06: SA Request a Quote, Hide Price

Primary source · vendor · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Free Basic; Premium $16.99/month; Pro $36.99/month ($69 for Plus). Includes price hiding, forms, quote-to-order, PDF and integrations.

Primary source · builder promotion · retrieved 2026-10-13 · search extracted text.

A builder explores almost the same proposition: reliable price hiding, multiple currencies and quote-to-order.

Limitations: Builder promotion, not a buyer report; evidence of competing ideas, not demand.

EC08: WooCommerce Multiple Purchase Quantity

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Needs a per-kilogram price and purchases in 10 kg increments without manually creating variations. Objects to paid plugin suggestions.

EC09: Priduct Quantity Step not showing for all products

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

EC12: Getting 404 error when I Add min qty 2

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Setting min=2 creates a malformed Select Options URL and a 404, while the product page still opens.

Limitations: Search index and relative page timestamps differ. Do not call the bug current without reproducing it.

EC13: Min/Max Quantities for WooCommerce

Primary source · vendor · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Official extension costs $49/year: minimums, maximums and multiples at product, variation, category and order level; Woo Blocks and HPOS support advertised.

Limitations: Price observed on an opened page October 13. Older reviews can describe older versions. Existing features substantially overlap this idea.

EC14: Maximum, Minimum and Multiple Quantity for WooCommerce Shops

EC16: Looking for a couple of Apps for a fresh food venture

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Wants delivery dates and a daily quantity limit per product. The author accepts Pickeasy as a suitable suggestion.

Limitations: Counterevidence for new development: an existing solution was found. No payment verified.

EC17: Shopify Delivery Date Picker to ShipStation?

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

A selected future date does not reach ShipStation, requiring manual order sorting.

Limitations: 2023 request; Flare now advertises ShipStation integration. An unserved niche is not established.

EC18: Order Cutoff time

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Needs a 2 pm EST cutoff plus a rush-processing surcharge.

Limitations: Author plans to try suggested apps; result unknown.

EC19: Apps/Settings for a Small Bakery Orders

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · search extracted text.

EC21: Flare: Delivery Date Picker

Primary source · vendor · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Plans at $39/$99/$249/$599 per month with monthly-sales thresholds. Advertises validation, ZIP rules, ShipStation and carrier estimates; some integrations require higher tiers.

Limitations: Official offer, not verified effectiveness or revenue. Do not attribute the full feature set to the $39 tier.

EC22: My first Shopify app just got approved

Primary source · builder promotion · retrieved 2026-10-13 · search extracted text.

Kite's builder describes cutoff/blackout calendars, a free allowance and a $4.99 paid plan.

Limitations: Builder promotion; historical price from a post, not a verified current tariff or buyer demand.

EC23: Partial Fulfillment of pick up orders

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Needs partial pickup of an order containing available and backordered products. Support confirmed a missing feature in 2023.

Limitations: Old initial request. The 2026 MD recommendation is from its developer, cross-checked against EC24, not an independent customer.

EC24: How can I partially fulfill in-store pickup orders?

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

A custom-products merchant cannot conveniently record partial pickups. A free shipping workaround is mistaken for home delivery.

Limitations: 2020 post with replies through 2025. Another post by the same author, topic 13404, was excluded as a duplicate. Developer promotes MD in replies.

EC25: Shopify POS – backorders / partial fulfillment

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-13 · search extracted text.

A shop manually records uncollected POS items because auto-fulfilment closes the order. Replies suggest disabling auto-fulfilment, manual fulfilments and Flow.

Limitations: POS and online local pickup differ. Advice conflicts and native workaround needs testing.

EC26: MD Partial Local Pickup

Primary source · vendor · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Direct competitor at $4.99/month for partial readiness/pickup, notifications and a POS tile; zero reviews on the observed page.

Limitations: Zero reviews does not mean zero customers. Claims about Shopify limitations are vendor statements.

EC27: Fulfilling your own orders individually

Primary source · platform documentation · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Documentation describes partial and split fulfilment and distinguishes pickup ready/picked-up states from shipped fulfilment.

Limitations: Does not prove the exact partial-pickup workflow is covered; development-store testing is needed.

EC28: Setting up pickup in store for online orders

Primary source · platform documentation · retrieved 2026-10-13 · opened page.

Official pickup setup documentation provides platform context instead of relying on old forum claims.

Limitations: No explicit partial-pickup confirmation found in the extracted text; an absent word does not establish an absent feature.

NC01: Price mismatch with the latest versions

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Merchant reports stale feed prices after plugin upgrades, around 200 affected products and Merchant Center disapprovals; rolls back to an older version.

Limitations: Historical report around 2025, not a reproduced current bug. Support also suggests cache/conflict testing.

NC02: AggregateOffer on variation URLs causes price mismatch

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Merchant reports variant landing-page schema prices differing from the submitted feed. Later corrects the initial attribution from Yoast to WooCommerce.

Limitations: User diagnosis not independently verified. Important correction: do not blame Yoast based on the first post. Relative timestamp only.

NC03: Sale price not reflected in CTX Feed

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Merchant wants dynamic discounts maintained in one place and reflected in feeds; support acknowledges a compatibility gap and suggests alternatives.

Limitations: Support promises future compatibility in one or two months; promise is not evidence it shipped. Current version not tested.

NC04: Feed price does not match landing page

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Merchant reports disapproval and ultimately removes the plugin after unsuccessful support. Vendor says free CTX does not cover currency/front-end price modifiers.

Limitations: Historical thread includes a July 2025 deadline. Merchant claims and vendor explanation do not isolate root cause.

NC05: Fix automatic item updates for price

Primary source · platform documentation · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Google documents a native Needs attention workflow, CSV issue export and structured-data checking when price updates stop.

Limitations: Native tools overlap monitoring. Does not establish demand for another dashboard.

NC06: Google Merchant Center price attribute

Primary source · platform documentation · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Google recommends automatic price updates, while noting they depend on crawls and regular feed resubmission remains necessary.

Limitations: Automatic updates reduce the problem but do not replace consistent source data. No performance measurement.

NC07: AdTribes Product Feed Elite pricing

Primary source · vendor · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Free Product Feed Pro exists. Growth is $99.50 first year/$199 renewal; Plus $179.50/$359; Business $249.50/$499. Plus/Business include a scheduled Feed Validator.

Limitations: Introductory annual prices, not monthly or renewal prices. Direct validator competition already exists; landing-page parity coverage not tested.

NC08: Access to download files after file update

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Merchants discuss missing old-customer access after changing downloadable files; later support distinguishes editing an existing file row from adding a new file.

Limitations: Early support answers conflict with later clarification. Use current Woo documentation for authoritative behaviour.

NC09: Downloads Broken After Migration

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Store reports downloads failing after hosting migration despite files still existing; thread includes a 403 and permission/subscription troubleshooting.

Limitations: Can be a hosting/configuration repair rather than a recurring plugin problem. Exact publication date not extracted.

NC10: Grant download permissions for active subscriptions

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Merchant cannot manually grant updated files across many active subscriptions; reports an existing GitHub utility does not cover subscription products.

Limitations: Historical report around 2024. Current subscription compatibility and scale not reproduced; no purchase verified.

NC11: Regenerate permissions without losing old files

Primary source · user report · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Merchant wants new-file access while preserving already granted downloads. Replies suggest manual permission management and an attachment plugin.

Limitations: Older question. Distinguish preserving files from preserving download logs; not every regeneration complaint has the same cause.

NC12: WooCommerce Digital/Downloadable Product Guide

Primary source · platform documentation · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Native order controls grant/revoke access. Editing an existing file row updates past links; adding a row does not. Regeneration replaces permissions and loses old counts/logs.

Limitations: Native functions already solve many cases. Version-specific details must be checked in the target store; no live test performed.

NC13: WooCommerce grant past-order download permissions

Primary source · substitute · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Free WooCommerce GitHub plugin restores granting new files to past purchases; repository explicitly warns of heavy queries and poor scalability.

Limitations: Do not install untested on production; maintenance/version compatibility not established. Strong substitute for small/simple cases.

NC14: Easy Digital Downloads pricing

Primary source · substitute · retrieved 2026-10-14 · opened page.

Alternative digital-commerce platform offers free Lite and Personal $99.50 introductory year, normally $199; broader paid tiers add features.

Limitations: A platform migration substitute, not a drop-in Woo permission repair. Introductory price renews at full price; migration costs unmeasured.

Scope and limitations

Working days for one experienced full-stack developer building a narrow pilot for one store/theme. Excludes marketplace review, legal documents, universal compatibility, marketing and ongoing support. Assumption, not a delivery commitment.

No customer contacts, external account changes, plugin installations, purchases or production repairs were performed. No CAC, retention, conversion or market-size measurements exist. Revenue forecasts are deliberately unavailable. Existing competitors demonstrate supply, not an automatic route to profitable acquisition. New work should begin with controlled fixtures and direct feature comparisons before a merchant pilot.
