Point-in-Time Financial Data: Revisions, Vintages & Availability

Distinguish the date a value describes from the date it was available to a research process.

Reference dates do not establish publication dates

A financial statement for a past quarter can have been published later or revised after that. A daily price can be corrected. A present download of historical rows does not automatically reproduce the information available at a past decision date.

Choose an appropriate source mechanism

FRED and ALFRED documentation describes release/vintage workflows for economic series. A market-data product may use other revision or update fields. Inspect the named dataset’s actual controls rather than assuming a historical date column supplies a point-in-time history. FRED API documentation

Preserve what the terms permit

Record version, retrieval time, series/instrument identifier, units and revision policy. Storage and redistribution can have their own conditions. A reproducibility plan must account for those terms instead of assuming every full response can be archived or mirrored.

Connect the workflow without mixing claims

The screener catalogue addresses current-data selection; our inflation tools use a specifically documented BLS monthly snapshot. Neither establishes a provider-wide vintage archive or permission to cache a different API’s content.
