Financial Data API Access vs Public Display: A Use-Case Checklist
Identify the intended use and inspect provider/product terms before embedding financial data in a website.
Write down the actual distribution
Private research, internal display, public charts, a paid customer dashboard, downloadable data, derived indicators and AI-related processing can be distinct uses. Define the intended workflow before choosing a personal-use subscription.
Use the current provider statement
FMP’s pricing page expressly identifies a specific agreement for display or redistribution. Twelve Data’s Basic description specifies internal non-display usage. Massive distinguishes individual stock plans from business plans. A technical response does not remove those conditions. Do not assume economic data is uniformly unrestricted
FRED series can include third-party rights and attribution. Its current API terms also contain additional restrictions relevant to caching and AI use. Nasdaq Data Link products have their own applicable terms. Read the current product and use conditions; this checklist does not grant a licence or resolve an individual contract. Keep credentials outside public code
Use the provider’s approved authentication method and avoid putting a real key in public JavaScript, repository examples or screenshots. This site asks for no key, sends no authenticated requests and uses invented sample bars. A local file inspection is separate from permission to obtain or distribute a dataset.
