Business template methodology and verification
Inspect what each file calculates, which inputs you control and which financial assumptions remain outside the model.
Four independent downloads
The profit-and-loss, direct cash-flow and two-date balance-sheet workbooks are separate focused templates. They do not automatically exchange data with each other. The financial-projections workbook is the connected service-business model: its Inputs feed Forecast, and Summary links the completed results.
Input and formula conventions
Examples use invented USD values stored as numbers. Blue numeric inputs on pale yellow are editable. Black formulas calculate in the same sheet; green links bring values from another sheet in working areas. Summary outputs use dark text. Dark date headers remain white for legibility. Negative amounts display in parentheses and genuine zero values as dashes, except balance-difference checks which show 0.00.
Required blank numeric inputs are not treated as deliberate zero. Affected outputs show n.a. and Check inputs appears. A zero revenue period has no defined profit margin. The model preserves its absolute profit or loss and leaves the ratio unavailable. Reconciliation differences are highlighted beyond half a cent; a neutral zero is not proof that underlying accounts are complete.
Time and aggregation
P&L and cash-flow examples have twelve labelled calendar months. Financial projections start on the entered first day of a month and run for twelve periods. Flow totals are summed. Opening cash uses the first opening balance; final cash and balance-sheet stocks use the final period. Annual margins divide annual components rather than averaging monthly percentages.
Projection conventions
Revenue is units times price. Direct costs are a share of revenue. Receivables and payables use entered month-end shares. Interest uses opening debt divided by twelve. Capex is added before requested depreciation is capped at available net fixed assets. Principal repayment is capped at opening debt plus new draws; excess requested principal is shown separately. Owner distributions reduce retained earnings.
Tax is the entered rate on positive monthly pretax profit and is assumed paid in the same month. There is no loss carryforward, deferred tax, VAT, inventory, foreign exchange, debt fees or statutory depreciation schedule. Negative cash is an unresolved funding gap. No financing plug is introduced to make the balance positive.
Verification performed
All worksheets were rendered and visually inspected. Checks include baseline examples, input changes, deliberate zero, missing inputs, balance differences and late-period forecast drivers. Microsoft Excel recalculation and native save/reopen were tested in disposable copies. Original distributed files contain formulas and example inputs, with no macros or external workbook relationships. Native Google Sheets rendering is not verified.
Records and privacy
Downloads are ordinary local workbooks. There is no upload form, banking API or storage account in this catalogue. Normal website and hosting infrastructure can log page and file requests. Keep your edited financial files private and retain source evidence separately.
Definitions and further reading
The SEC introductory guide to financial statements explains why position, earnings and cash describe different financial information. The SBA business-management resources provide broader small-business context. These sources support the definitions; the original workbook layouts and invented examples are AllMarkets material.
