Percentage Points Calculator

Show the absolute difference between rates alongside the relative percent change.

Your inputs

Use consistent units and periods. Defaults are examples.

Your result

Check the assumptions below before relying on a result.

Formula and method

Percentage-point change = new rate − original rate. Relative percent change = (new − original) ÷ original × 100. Basis-point change = percentage-point change × 100.

Worked example

A rate rising from 5% to 7% increases by 2 percentage points, or 200 basis points. Its relative increase is 40%, not 2%.
