Build an ownership budget before choosing the car price

Solve the payment capacity after household obligations and real operating costs.

Protect the household first

Start with take-home income, non-car expenses and the savings contribution you want to preserve. The tool then respects the lower of your own car spending cap and remaining household cash.

Reserve running costs before debt service

Insurance, fuel or charging, a maintenance reserve and annual vehicle charges use part of the monthly car budget. Include those costs once. Existing car costs should not also remain inside the non-car expense number if this is a replacement scenario.

Solve the purchase backwards

The remaining payment capacity determines a loan principal at the entered rate and term. Add available cash down and net trade equity, subtract fees, then remove the entered full-price tax factor to obtain the vehicle price limit.

Look beyond a longer term

At a fixed payment, a longer term can support a higher purchase amount but also changes total interest. The sensitivity table keeps that tradeoff visible. A cash-flow scenario is not credit approval or a recommendation to use the maximum.
